meet the team who lasso’d afc richmond

for nearly 5 years, from early 2019 through to late 2023, digitalfilm tree (dft) had the high honor and privilege of partnering with team lasso through every phase of pre-production, production, post production and archival.

starting with legendary super producer, kip kroeger, he brought dft’s previsualization department, cinecode, on board to conceptualize the on field futbol matches that would need to be filmed against greenscreens once it was learned they would not have access to shooting in the stadium – and, of course, the challenges of weather.

geopost was also leveraged to both transport their nearly 6tb of media being captured per day, but also the easy access for all departments needing to collaborate – marketing at apple tv+, various vfx houses that would need plates, localization and closed captioning services, and so on from dailies through to archival.

our dailies department was a white glove effort each season across multiple countries and an ever increasing array of cameras and exciting innovations to bring you more of the action on the field and in the offices. working with the editors, assistant editors, on set dit’s, traveling teams and post back in los angeles, our dailies and geopost teams were true heroes of keeping everyone knee deep in well managed media.

visual effects was quite different from season one to season three, and at each turn we got to play bigger, go bolder, create richer landscapes and solve… a few wardrobe challenges along the way! most of the screens, windows, and even a few errant costume continuity switches are compliments of dft, but mostly we hope you never noticed us!

while mark wilkins, one of our favorite humans of all time, began the series as senior colorist, our current co-cto and senior colorist, thomas galyon, csi was handed the mantle on season three under mark’s mentoring eye. a lot of beautiful visual music was created in those scopes!

bringing it home in online/conform, it was an all out facility effort (enabled by blackmagic design’s resolve) thanks to jacob tillman, lakan de leon, sam tengco and our geopost team allowing for several collaborators to battle through to the epic finish with vfx drop ins, thousands of visual effects, audio stems, color and last minute tweaks.

finally, when all the so longs and farewells were had, we began archiving every precious moment, preserving each of the elements and final episodes should they ever need to be revisited.

we miss you already, ted, but loved looking back on all the wonder we got to create together!
