Michael Horton founder of LACPUG Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

DigitalFilm Tree—DFT—would like to congratulate Michael Horton on his recent Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by LumaForge during the annual NAB—National Association of Broadcasters—convention this last April, the award was a tip of the hat to Horton for more than two decades of dedicated service as producer for the annual SuperMeet at NAB, as well as his diligence as founder and head of LACPUG—formerly LAFCPUG—the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group—one of the largest congregating chapters of video and film editors worldwide.
Presently representing over 6000 members and growing at a rate of roughly 100 members-per-month, LAFCPUG was started in June of 2000 as a reaction to the acquisition of Final Cut Pro by Apple from Macromedia in 1998. To reflect continual seismic upheaval in the digital NLE industry, LAFCPUG would adapt its name to LACPUG—the Los Angeles Creative Pro User Group—in September of 2012.
Pioneering Final Cut Pro workflows for productions like Scrubs, Cold Mountain, and Everybody Hates Chris, DFT’s CEO Ramy Katrib spoke at the very first LACPUG, then LAFCPUG, event. “I grew up in the digital revolution with Michael,” he explains about a familial relationship with Horton, “who still attracts, educates, and inspires a diverse community of creatives around the world.”
DFT was started at the heart of Sunset Blvd in Hollywood as one of the first professional post production houses centering on Final Cut Pro. Now leveraging the DaVinci Resolve pipeline for editing, conform, VFX and color, DFT brings cloud based and remote post services for the likes of Netflix, TBS, THE CW, CBS, ABC, and many more.
Bookending eighteen years of worldwide SuperMeet groups, Michael Horton and Dan Berube announced last January that they would no longer be producing chapters during NAB. The Los Angeles Creative Pro User Group, LACPUG, meets the fourth Wednesday of every month.
