dft vfx @ sxsw 2024!

digitalfilm tree (dft) is headed back to austin for our fourth sxsw festival as speakers! this year we’re hosting the vfx on set 101 workshop on saturday, march 10th at 11:30am, being held at the courtyard marriott in brazos i, across from the austin convention center.

our head of vfx, dylan chudzynski, and carlo vega who serves as dft’s sr. lead vfx artist, (and one of our on set vfx supervisors), will host the introductory workshop where attendees will learn the basics of how best to approach shooting scenes that will eventually require visual effects. some basic vfx workflow would be covered, but the emphasis would be on what to do on set to achieve the best and most financially efficient end result.

dft has previously spoken at sxsw, initially with the fateful 2020 pandemic cancellation of diversity below the line, and then their sole remote year in 2021, with a featured panel for ted lasso: emotion in the edit with bill lawrence! in 2022 we again hosted jason sudeukis, brett goldstein and brendan hunt. last, certainly never least, we also hosted a panel with the umbrella academy team, and our own carlo vega.

vega & chudzynski are excited to bring “the dft way” of vfx to sxsw, and to empower more filmmakers with the practical steps that will save their budgets should they need or want vfx to play a role in their final project.

chudzynski is a 20+ year veteran of the film and television industry, where he heads the visual effects department and has grown the team from a solo endeavor to hundreds of artists around the world. his credits include “scrubs,” “ncis: los angeles,” “ted lasso,” “manifest,” and “the umbrella academy.”

vega is a trailblazer in the world of visual effects, with a deep commitment to pushing the boundaries forward in his craft. graduating from usc’s school of cinematic arts, carlo honed his skills in 2d/3d compositing and now stands as a senior lead visual effects artist at digitalfilm tree.

also joining them at the festival is coo/cfo, nancy jundi and dft’s head of creative services, avital shalev. they’ll attend the workshop as additional resources for students, as well as help host dft’s oscar viewing party!

please let us know if you’ll also be in austin during sxsw and if you’d like to join us for the awards telecast (hurry – very few seats available – an open bar means we’ll fill up fast!).

email social@digitalfilmtree.com if you’d like to join the party, and register here for the vfx workshop.
